What is FFO?

French Federation of Orthodontics

Orthodontics has been a recognized specialty for over 100 years. In France, James Quintero founded the French Society of Orthodontics in 1921. Other societies were subsequently created, bringing together practitioners who shared the same philosophy (diagnostic approach and clinical sequences), the same quality objectives (study clubs), or who had a common university background.

These societies have joined together in the French Federation of Orthodontics in order to combine their strengths and better serve the profession.

The nine societies that originally formed the group organized the Orthodontics Days, replacing the "Petite Session" of the SFODF before structuring themselves into a Federation. Julien Philippe was its first President in 2001, followed by Pierre Planché and Gisèle Delhaye-Thépaut.

As of today, 12 scientific societies, including the College of Teachers, are associated within this Federation.

Initially established as an association governed by the law of July 1, 1901, declared at the prefecture of Paris on May 3, 2001 (JO June 2, 2001), the French Federation of Orthodontics was transformed by a decision taken on October 20, 2011, unanimously by its members, into an economic interest group governed by articles L. 251-1 et seq. of the Commercial Code and by all subsequent texts, the first administrator of which was Olivier Mauchamp.

The French Federation of Orthodontics serves Orthodontics and the Societies that comprise it, but its main task is to organize and promote the Orthodontics Days.

Orthodontics Days:

Over three days, this is the largest gathering of the entire profession: orthodontists, general practitioners practicing orthodontics, maxillofacial surgeons, orthotists, assistants, radiodiagnostic technicians, nurses, dental assistants, laboratories and suppliers are all present to share their passion and knowledge.

These days benefit, thanks to the indispensable participation of suppliers, from an ever-increasing exposure over 2000m2.

In 2013, 3041 people were present to participate in 170 conferences and 17 practical sessions, some of which had simultaneous translation.

The sessions are very varied, with pre-congress courses where the most renowned international colleagues come to share their experience with all the congress participants.

These are plenary sessions and workshops spread across six rooms and auditoriums, offering specific days for assistants, orthotists, or other medical specialties who join us.

As in other medical specialties, these days are evolving and offer consensus sessions, interactive conferences where students at the end of their internship are invited to present their thesis work.

The future for the Federation:

The Federation, an ecumenical model of our scientific life and within the framework of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), contributes to scientific progress and to the recognition of the important role of our profession in the field of health.

A research grant, a commission in charge of relations with the media and the general public to convey the image of our profession, regular scientific meetings, these are some of the tasks that make the French Federation of Orthodontics proud.
