Functional education challenges the technological and relational foundations of

It is an ecological medicine that addresses several of the child's specific and general functions to help them adapt to their environment. It integrates other disciplines and prioritizes the child's sustainable development. It is a functional orthopedics. Its primary method is the use of an orthotic device: the functional splint, which can be combined with other types of functional orthotics and all conventional methods of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

These orthotics will necessarily be used in conjunction with the learning or correction of orofacial functions and overall health: swallowing, breathing, eating, posture, sleep.

The well-being resulting from the alliance between body and therapeutic relationship for the patient far exceeds the benefit of physical health. To this end, practitioners and assistants are encouraged to work as a team to educate and support the child in their development.
Cooperation is an essential therapeutic condition, requiring specialized knowledge: medical psychology.

Drawing on his practice and experience, Marc-Gérald Choukroun has created a comprehensive guide for practitioners and assistants. He presents his clinical observations and the results obtained through concrete cases. He also draws upon the work of Daniel Rollet, who significantly contributed to evolving the understanding of dentofacial orthopedics and to uniting all those involved in functional education and early treatment.

This guide presents the essentials of the method and tools for effectively practicing functional orthodontic education
